My design experience started at my college’s student newspaper. Although I was a news editor, I found that taking the edited stories and designing the pages they would be read on was a satisfying, full-circle moment. I carried that over into my work in higher education, where I designed annual magazines, event flyers, and other marketing materials. Understanding the principles of design and having done the work myself helps me better communicate with design professionals when we collaborate on projects.
